Roper Sons Mortuary, 4300 St. Omaha man sentenced in carjacking OMAHA (AP) U.S. District Judge William Cambridge has sent an Omaha man to prison for years on carjacking and weapon charges. Cambridge sentenced Calshaun L. Johnson, 23, to years for aiding and abetting a carjacking and five years for aiding and abetting the use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Both terms are to be followed by three years of supervised release. Johnson will serve the sentences consecutively, Cambridge said in sentencing on Monday. Johnson is the second person in Nebraska to be sentenced under a 1992 law that made carjacking a federal crime. Richard Scott, 38, and a woman passenger told police they were stopped at a red light in Omaha about 4 a.m. Jan.

22 when two men, one of them Johnson, approached the car. One of the men brandished a gun and drove away in the car. Johnson ran away. Scott and his passenger flagged down a passing police officer, who caught Johnson running through a yard nearby. The second man got away.

Christopher wants delay in Russian gun imports WASHINGTON (AP) Secretary of State Warren Christopher wants the Treasury Department to delay approval of requests by U.S. companies to import $1 billion in weapons and ammunition from the former Soviet Union. Christopher wants to consider whether the new trade would affect the foreign policy and security interests of the United States, the State Department spokesman said Monday. More than 250 requests for licenses to import 7 billion rounds of ammunition and 7.6 million rifles and pistols are involved, Michael McCurry said in announcing the State Department would conduct a review. In 1993, 18,000 rifles and pistols were legally imported from Russia, and in 1992, 1,000 were approved by the Treasury.

Last week, President Clinton elicited a promise from Russian President Boris Yeltsin not to sign any new contracts to provide weapons to Iran. However, Yeltsin insisted on fulfilling existing contracts. Administration officials said they did not know how many submarines and other major weapons were "in the pipeline." boyfriend's bomb hand was destroyed. The boy, 15, had learned how to build the bomb from a computer service. "He was going to blow up a big rock for her," Derzis said.
